Cartridges

For as long as Westley Richards has been buildings guns, so it has been developing high performance cartridges to shoot through them. Today Westley Richards offers a range of traditional English cartridges that are specially loaded for us by Lyalvale Express. Game cartridges are available in two and a half inch chamberings, in all popular gauges. These cartridges have been tested comprehensively to CIP specifications, and their performance has been proven on the challenging game shoots unique to the UK.

Ammunition

In 1871 Westley Richards patented the solid drawn brass cartridge, which revolutionised military and sporting rifle history. Without this design the transition from single shot to repeating and automatic weapons would never have been possible. From a sporting point of view the inherent strength of the case enabled the development of larger and more powerful bullets, which, combined with the advent of nitro powder, led to the frenzy of big game calibre development in the early 1900's. Today Westley Richards produces a comprehensive range of classic English nitro express ammunition. This ammunition has been exhaustively tested to CIP specifications, and successfully used throughout the world's hunting grounds. Manufactured from the finest quality brass and using Woodleigh bullets, the ammunition is available in calibres from .240 to .700. Special loadings are also available to suit individual needs.
